Mimi - Battlemage Bunny Doll by dot-DOLL Mimi - Battlemage Bunny Doll by dot-DOLL
:icondonotuseplz::iconmyartplz:

Mimi is a new character to what is currently being mentally dubbed "the Dollomeia Project".
She stands 11 inches tall to the top of her head, has jointed head and jointed and wired legs, so she's very posable! She's made of fleece with hand embroidered face.
I will make more clothes for her as I get more materials. I want to make her armour!

She's not for sale. I may make more in the future.
COMMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN! [link]
Heads up, though, ONLY OC'S, no lisenced characters. But pretty much any kind of OC -animal, anthro, human, dragon, centaur...

For more of my plushies check out my gallery or my etsy store!

NO - I will not be giving or selling patterns!
YES - I will make patterns and tutorials in the future! Keep checking back!

Ugh...I ADORE your anthro style plushies. So well made and cute!
Im sad I probably never will be able to gather that much money T_T (living in a crappy country where dollar worths much more than it should sucks)
Im pretty sure you'll refuse, but ima throw the question anyways, would you be interested in a trade? Im not nearly as good but I make stuffs ; w;

I would like to open trades and contests and such in the future, so I'll let you know! (I'm coming to the end of a project and quite busy right now XD )
My smallest plush price is $65 up to nine inches, which is still a lot of money, but not as much as these jointed dolls are (she'd be around $150, unless the design had no clothes, then it would be $130)
I'd love to be able to make something more affordable, but so far, anything is either way too simple and boring or takes hoursssss because they're so fiddly! One day I'll find a middle ground...

I look foward to that *w*
And don't worry, I don't think your work is overpriced at all. You put a LOT of work into those pieces and I totally understand it. Im just sad -I- can't afford it (Argentina's economy is fucked up) xP
And im doomed, cause my OC is a complicated design since she is an anthro cheshire cat (oh the stripes, everywhere) so if I managed to get many commissions annnnnnd manage to save that money I will try to commission you.

Im determined to have a joined doll by you, eventually..someday..but determined! XD

I'm glad you don't think i'm overpriced... its so hard to gauge! But this is my only form of employment at the moment... I can't do it as a hobby.
I'm planning on running this as my career for pretty much as long as I can, so I'll hopefully be around for a good few years XD There's no rush.
I could do the stripes in acrylic paint, but it might not have the desired look. I prefer to sew stripes in, it looks more... thorough. But obviously, that would be up to you XD

I've been in the business some time now, and I've seen all kinds of crafters and did a few things myself to understand how much work and love we put into what we make, some people don't understand the handcrafted value and that sucks = 3=
If I get the money, I wont settle for acrylic paint stripes! xD
If you were wondering about what i'd make you do, this is my oc: [link]
I don't have her clothes drawn, but it's nothing complicated :P

I've been using the US crafters as examples because there is so little "craft" here in the UK. If you set a computerized sewing machine to sew your name on your pyjamas, that's crafting and is considered GENIUS.
Yeah, its better than paying for customization, but its still a machine doing it. >___>'

Actually, as her stripes are quite uniform, I could maybe even find striped fur. Theres a shop on eBay that has all sorts of fur, and I'm sure there's a pinky purple stripe, though I may be mistaken...
It'd give a lovely clean finish, anyway. I'll have a snoop X3

Same here, I've seen crafters at anime cons here in Argentina (wich are really small) but they are really underpriced. People don't understand the value of buying something handcrafted. People here is very cheap :c

And gosh.. I want it so bad ; w;
Maybe in a couple of months, if I survive the renovation of my rent XDDD

We don't even get any cons or anything here, so there is no kind of open display of crafting, its just at home, hidden away. Its a shame, because I've fallen in love with it, and so many other people would too...

That's fine, it gives me a good while to find more reliable websites.

I'm actually UK based, so shipping may not be as high as you're thinking.
Price checker is estimating between 13 - 16, roughly $16 - $22, but thats with "signed for". Just straight delivery would be around $12 - $15 I guess.
I'll include shipping on my commissions stuff when I post it XD

Thank you! now for a ramble XD
You just need joints. I use these thingies:
[link]
They're cheap and very easy to use. And they have a good range of sizes. You can get more expensive pin-joints or something, but they are expensive and these safety joints work well. I've tried pulling them apart and you'd have to seriously pull to snap the limb off! You just have to warm the joints on a heater before you try and push them together, just to soften the plastic.
As for templates, just make the head as an idividual piece (continue the back of the head to join the chin, don't cut a hole for the neck) and on the body piece, cap the neck with a circle of fabric, but DON'T stuff and sew shut the plush yet! Decide where you want the joint to sit, cut small holes and then pop the joint pieces in, one in the head, one in the neck. Push the joints together and THEN sew the two body pieces shut.
Hope that helps!

I'll be making tutorials soon, I might start with these...

What sort of stuffing do you use for an armature plushie like this?
Reply
:icondot-doll:
dot-DOLL Featured By Owner Apr 5, 2013  Professional Artisan Crafter
I just use pillows XD
I find plush stuffing compacts really quickly and ends up lumpy, but cheap pillows hold thier shape a bit better. You can get really good quality stuffing, but its really expensive here in the UK.

Pillows? o__o;; wouldn't they need to be tiny? I don't quite understand. XD I've wanted to try foam but I don't know where to get it at a decent price.

No, I pull all the pillow stuffing out, not use whole pillows XD
Foam would work, but you'd have to find hard foam and try sculpting it.
